ThinkNewsBrands initiative Total News Publishing, which gathers data sourced by Roy Morgan and is independently audited by Milton Data, has issued new numbers saying it reached 22.4 million people each month over the last financial year, representing 98% of Australians aged 14 and over. 

It states that ‘News Publishing’ (bringing together platforms run by Nine, News Corp Australia, and Seven West Media) is reported to be trusted three times more than social media, with 17.9% of Australians considering it their most trusted source, compared to 6.4% for social media.

ThinkNewsBrands says 53% of Australians prefer reading news, compared to 49% who watch it and 28% who listen to it.

General News is the most read category, engaging 96% of the population, followed by Property at 79%, Sport at 59%, and Entertainment and Culture at 53%.
