Taking an agenda-setting event virtual
The challenge
As part of a long-standing partnership with Deloitte, The Australian Financial Review was scheduled to host the AFR Banking and Wealth Summit. In March 2020, COVID-19 hit and events of all shapes and sizes were cancelled. Just two weeks before the scheduled event, the AFR Live team needed to find a solution and fast.
The execution
With the countdown on, the AFR Live team worked around the clock to turn the event into the Virtual Banking & Wealth Crisis Meeting. Live-streamed on AFR.com, the Financial Review journalists – at a 1.5m distance from the crew would moderate the event from Deloitte’s head offices in Melbourne and Sydney. Industry leaders dialled in to speak from their homes with the stream promoted across the Financial Review’s network of premium digital assets including AFR.com.
The results
More than 4,000 people watched the live stream with a peak of 500 viewers at any one time. The success of the event led to the Financial Review team developing a calendar of virtual events to support its advertising partners through the COVID-19 crisis.
